Welcome!

Welcome to the SOC 1101: Elements of Sociology resources hub! While focusing on SOC 1101, this site also includes source materials that might be useful for other introductory- and middle-level sociology courses. For information needed for designing an effective syllabus, go to Syllabus Resources. It provides such materials as tools for setting up attendance policy, CUNY grading scale, course outline, an example of disability accommodation policy, academic integrity resources, among other resources. If you are looking for a ready-to-use SOC 1101 course site, Model Courses provide courses complete with reading, videos, and class activities organized into weekly assignments. Note that these model courses can also be cloned and/or adapted as templates. The Online Teaching tab features various tools needed for online teaching. These include sample tests for student online learning preparedness, links to best practices, strategies for ensuring student accessibility and more. Assessment and Class Activities covers some of the key evaluation issues and provides examples of activities that can broaden the scope of student engagement with class assignments. Open Education Resources will direct you to the relevant sources licensed under Creative Commons and Public Domain as well as the sources that are available through CUNY library.  Use Help if you have any questions related to student resources available at City Tech, student FQAs, and support for OpenLab and Blackboard. Finally, if you have any suggestions for readings, videos, visual materials, in-class activities or other useful tools for teaching SOC 1101, please do not hesitate to get in touch! All contributions will be acknowledged and shared on this website.
