Internship: Journal Post 5

This week in our internship class, we were building upon the task we were given of creating the faculty survey flyer with the Brooklyn style guide and text. Our coordinator was looking for simplistic with geometric shapes with a muted and minimal color pallet.I incorporated theBrooklyn college  burgundy/dark  red as the back dominant  color  with  the  text  being  white. I chose to give the geometric shapes a slight color  variation to keep the  harmonious  color. I went  with  simple  patterns of  linear and more abstract stair like.

Internship: Webinar 2

Introduction to Brand Talks was the name of the Webinar. Some of the topics that were discussed was diversity and inclusion, branding and the behind the scenes production. It began with the host of the webinar who happened to be the SVP of Marketing at Monotype, Alice Palmer. Some of the speakers include Global Director of Brand Identity and Design Steffi Marty. Kristie Malivindi, Design Director, Jones Knowles Ritchie. The company and sponsors are Monotype which is the name of the website the webinar was casted. The takeaway I got from the webinar was the various marketing and changes companies are making to have a more diverse and inclusive team. For instance the changing of iconic M&M characters and the changing of the type face to a more friendly and inclusive font. To recap my opinion and thoughts on the webinar, I thought it was interesting to see the subtle changes within already known brands to have a more inclusive background. Prior to this webinar there was a gap in my understanding as to why changes were made within the M&M corporation, so finally bridging that gap was satisfying.

Internship: Journal Post 3 – The first meeting

After Securing an internship with Brooklyn College we were finally going to have our first meeting as a group to discuss what we will be doing. Our director along with two other classmates, Oscar and Mikhail were given the task to make a tik tok for the College about enrollment and graduating early. We were given clips previously made by past interns and our job was to collaborate together to make a 30 second or so tik tok incorporating text, music and video. With this task being given to us, we created a group chat in where we would divide sections of the tik tok for everyone to do. After we all discussed what the plan was, I ended up with music duty. Scour the internet and find what music and songs are trending that would fit our tik tok.

Internship: Journal Post 2 – The interview

Previously I was on the hunt for an internship, but failed to secure my first choice with the Brooklyn navy yard. But a classmate by the name of Oscar ad connected me to an internship at Brooklyn College he is currently interning at. After I connected with the internship coordinator at Brooklyn College she immediately spoke to me over the phone and via zoom about the internship and what it in-tales. She asked me about what my strengths were and basic questions to better understand how I could be helpful to the creation of content for the school. She then told me what can be expected in terms of creating content which is mainly tik toks and creating documents. By the end of the interview I told her I would love to accept the position.

Internship: Journal Post 1 – Internship hunt

As I journey into finding an opportunity to internship within the field of art and design, I found what I believed to be the one for me. I found the Brooklyn navy yard. It seemed to be the perfect and logical choice. It payed 15/hr, hybrid work and it gave me a reason to visit the place. But a week later I received an email stating I wast chosen. If we’re speaking honestly this really didn’t bother me since I previously heard that a fellow class mate Oscar had mentioned of internship opportunity that was in need of students. I had contacted him about how to reach out to the coordinator and he replied with her contact info.

Internship: Online Networking

This online event presented by AGA introduced award wining artist and designer yohyun Ahn. She spoke about some of her famous works of art and the meaning behind being a female artist in modern day. One of her series of work that I really enjoyed includes exclusively typography. Ahn spoke about a self portrait made from type which was very intriguing due to the nature and variety of different letters that made up that specific work of art.
