breast feeding Pamphlet

The basis of my project is very simple and it is to provide information and support to mothers in the community who may want to give breast feeding a try. I am completing this at my current internship site, Fort Greene SNAP. I will meet one on one in the private counseling office with expectant moms who are interested in learning more about breastfeeding.

They will be given a packet that will include which hospitals in Brooklyn provide lactation services before and after birth, all WIC centers in Brooklyn and their services, the importance of having the baby “latch” correctly, the difference between foremilk, hind milk and colostrum and about breastfeeding in public. They will also be given a pamphlet that outlines why breast is best and breastfeeding myths and benefits.

At any point during the session”, they can ask questions about things that are not covered in the packet or are simply unclear to them. The meeting can be a one time workshop or a series of meetings if the client so chooses and feels the need for ongoing support. The goal is to provide them with enough information to ensure they feel confident and empowered on this journey, while gaining support from someone who has been through the same things they will be experiencing.
