I was born in Dumas, Arkansas and have been living in New York City since I was six years old. I am a 50 year old wife, and mother of three girls and two boys.  I have two part time jobs, one working at 311 as a call center operator for 18 hours a week and the other with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission as a receptionist for 24 hours a week. I am also attending New York City College of Technology in pursuit of my Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services.

I have chosen the human services field because it is closely connected to social work, a degree I was pursuing several years ago and was unable to complete.  I did not obtain my degree in social work because at the time it was more pertinent to obtain a full time job.  I have always wanted to help my fellow man and to feel like I was a part of something, not just a caretaker and mother for my family.  There are numerous individuals that need communication and guidance and if I can be of assistance to them that is what I wish to do.  If I needed help I would like to know that someone was available to listen to my issues and offer substantial advice and concrete assistance.

My personal and professional strengths are my facilitating nature, my compassion, my willingness to help others and my repertoire of skills and the knowledge to provide assistance to whomever needs it.

I have not decided which field I will pursue after my degree is obtained; however I would like to follow a broader generalist specialty because it would not confine my interest in human services; because this is more preferable to my nature, and would not constrain me to one area of interest.

I envision my future career to involve the criminal element of society, because I am familiar with this population.  I have worked in the criminal court system and found it to be of interest.  Eventually becoming a supervisor or a person in authority is something that I would preferably enjoy because I have the skills for leadership.

Today the world is multi-cultural and ever evolving and there is a constant need to change and grow with the times, or be left behind.  There will always be something new to learn about individuals and the different cultures around you.  There will also always be a need to expand your knowledge base and continuously go back to your education and learn new things.

I have no idea what life has in store for me or what my career will entail; however I believe whatever it is it will be beneficial for me, my family and my fellow man.  I have been in this world for quite some time and I have amassed vast knowledge and skills to assist individuals in proceeding to the next level of their lives.
