Reading and Reflection Assignment #1_Ying Ying

I didn’t start reading the Diary of the Wimpy Kid until middle school. I watched the movie in middle school before I read the book. It was funny. I really enjoy reading this series because it’s filled with illustrations/ funny characters to go along with the story. The series was humorous and easy to read. Friendship is the major theme of each book, Greg, his somewhat evil older brother Rodrick, his younger brother Manny, and his best friend Rowley Jefferson. I remembered I liked reading the books because it was written as a journal/diary format. It was different from other books. Kids reading these books can relate to it. His life as a loser in middle school and his older brother is the cool one that makes fun of him.

I remember I used to write my own diary with little drawings at the end but I got lazy and gave up writing diaries for 1 week. I find that it is hard to keep writing in my diary. I never filled up 1 page. I started to write a diary in freshmen in high school my art teacher told us that each day when we come into class start with a 10 minutes of writing about anything, I would get stuck and end up writing, “I don’t know what to write. I don’t know what to write.”

Diary Assignment- Ying Ying

March 25, 2020

9:45 am

Wake up and get ready for my first online math class on Blackboard. It was boring. As I sat on my desk and listened to my professor, I was falling asleep. I wish I could just go to class and learn instead.

11:00 am

I helped my siblings with their online homework. They have to do art, reading, writing, and imagine learning online courses. They’re in elementary school and already have more work to do than me.

12:30 pm

My family and I ate lunch together. Watch the murder mistery drama together which we always do but during dinner time after everyone comes back from work. We had rice, veggies, chicken, pork, fish, and soup. It was great. I got to wait for tomorrow to continue watching the drama because only one episode comes out a day.

3:00 pm

I went to netflix and finally finished the korean drama Crash Landing On You. The drama was really good. I just didn’t really like how it ended.

6:00 pm

Had dinner with my family and went back to watch netflix.

12:30 pm

Took a shower and went to sleep.

I am doing fine right now. Been home for an entire week already. My parents stocked up on everything we needed. The weather’s nice out. I  just want to go out to see my friends and go to work. To me, there’s really nothing to do at home. All I’ve been doing is watching Netflix. My job still pays me for the next five weeks to just stay home and text/call my students’ parents to see how they are doing twice a week. Online classes are about to start and I would rather just go to school instead.

Because of the COVID-19 people worldwide seem to have let this 2019 coronavirus fuel their xenophobic and racist ideals. A lot of people tend to not do their research and only watch the news, instead of going to organizations like WHO (World Health Organization) for their information. Instead, they let social media and news outlets twist information and put fear in them. As a result of the misinformation of COVID-19’s origin being spread by the media, people let their fear overshadow the reality of this pandemic. Just last Saturday a 48-year-old  Asian man was stabbed 13 times, multiple times in the back, chest, and head with a knife just because he was wearing a mask. Not to mention, last Thursday an Asian man on the train was sprayed with air freshener over coronavirus concerns. I notice that the spread of COVID-19, rules that should have been implemented years ago are now being put into place. For example, the subway station is being cleaned twice a day, as well as other countries outside of North America making paid leave possible for people so they can leave work. Things like these should have been done, but because of the rapid spread of the virus, there is a change in the precaution that people are taking. Hopefully, these rules can become the norm in our society.
