What’s the plan for Wednesday, Professor?

Overview: Your diary entries let us learn about your life; however, what is research, at essence? Sharing something you do know, and looking deeper for something you don’t know. Please don’t overthink about what I “want.” Write in the GoogleDrive documents. Share your knowledge, and teach us something new.

We all need to get our minds opened right now. And we need to help each other do that

WHAT should you do before Wednesday?:

You: READ other people’s “skill/interest” documents and comment on them. You WRITE (I’ve read the ones that were posted on time) your skill document if you have not, already. If you have started your document, you add to it or augment it. You CONTINUE to write daily diary entries as per usual.

I am looking for: ENGAGEMENT and class PARTICIPATION in these assignments.

We meet on Wednesday Apr 29 at 9:00 AM on Zoom and take roll. We use the link that Daniel T. has so graciously created for us, and, hopefully, we have fewer tech issues. Link below. See you. -Prof. S.

Next Steps for this week, April 22-24 -Prof. S.

Meeting re-cap today: roll call; we wrote and listened; some watchwords of the day included: “cherish” “precious” “eulogy” “subjective” “objective” “personal” “facts”; brainstorming on next assignment format; decision to meet again next week; music; goodbyes. Great meeting! So amazing to hear from you all. Wish we had more time. Thank you for witnessing me, and each other, and for helping us re-gain community.

NEXT STEPS:

Look in the MENU above for this site and you will see a new listing there called GOOGLE DRIVE LINK. In the shared yellow SKILL folder you will find one document created for each one of you to work in. I also created a Sample Document to give you some outline of format. To summarize: our next step will be to share some skill/interest/pursuit that we have had during our confinement — something that gives us joy or makes us feel interested in life and in bettering ourselves. We also discussed that part of this next step will be to do some research and learn more about this skill/interest.

At preset there is no length limit or minimum on this assignment. It is a work in progress. It is, however, required as part of your UNIT III grade. Due date: I expect EVERYONE to do this work-in-progress by Saturday of this week (April 25) so that I have time to review what you wrote before Monday morning.

So: start filling in your own document, AND, peek around and look at somebody else’s document by Monday Morning. Type any questions or issues or anything here under COMMENTS and I will attempt to answer you.  : )

We will discuss our work on Monday. Check back for a Zoom meeting link. Our next meeting will be April 27 at 9:00AM.

Back Online, Update from Prof. S. on Wednesday

Hi Class. I am so sorry to have been out of touch. I experienced some serious tech issues over our break. My computer crashed.

By Anonymous – Camille Flammarion, L’Atmosphère: Météorologie Populaire (Paris, 1888), pp. 163., Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=318054

Some good news on the horizon, though: I got some assistance with managing our OpenLab site. This site is a work-in-progress, but you will be seeing a few upgrades. I can now post Private grades and comments on your individual work. You should be seeing my responses on your Mid-Semester Assignments soon. Rest assured, they are private.

I’m also re-linking all your posts in the MEMBERS list. I’m doing this so that I can better track your work Online. Thank you so much for being patient with me.

-Prof. S.

PLUTO — discussion thread

Dear Pluto,

Or, rather, Dear Raghda, Masha, Brianna, and Wala,

I have created a Discussion thread just for you.

Please follow the link. You are my test group — the first ones. Write back to me and tell me if you think it is clear.

https://openlab.citytech.cuny.edu/groups/eng1121-sec402-spring2020/forum/

We are getting in deeper, now. Doing more exploration. As outermost planet, I think you are well suited to that, and I appreciate your amazing work.

-Prof. S.

Good Morning, April 6, from Prof. S….

Image of the sun from Wikipedia.

Good Morning, Class. I am checking in with you at our “normal” time to say that I am here for you today and tomorrow. Do you have questions? Are you lost or lacking motivation? I will be at my “desk”** from 9:00 AM to 10:00AM checking my OpenLab and emails and also from 1:00PM to 2:00PM.

(Also, I will be setting up Zoom Office Hours for the semester going forward. I will write that in a separate post.)

**My “desk” is actually two pieces of plastic from Target stacked on top of each other.

The culminating assignment of UNIT II: GENRE

Hi Class. Our “re-calibration” period is over. We’ve been writing steadily in our diaries, doing our reflections, small-group Zooming…now what? Here is a video telling you about how to hand in your work in Unit II for mid-semester grading. Be sure to check our ASSIGNMENTS page for the document outlining how I want this work formatted for submission. When you complete your document, you will name it, and also upload it to OpenLab, with the following nomenclature: YOURLASTNAME_YOURFIRSTNAME_UNIT II_MIDSEMESTER.
