Let’s take this back to when I was a kid I was always drawn to books that were very colorful. Anytime I went anywhere I saw a book that was colorful with pretty pictures, I would grab it. My grandmother would always get me the books and read to me at night. I was mostly more fascinated by the picture than the words but I eventually realized the words went with the pictures. Soon my grandmother gave me the book and started helping me sound out the words. As a child that was raised in Jamaica for a couple years my english was broken. I had a very strong accent so pronouncing the words was very hard for me. When i would be driving around with my grandmother I would try to read anything like billboards, store signs , cereal boxes in the grocery store and many other things. At first I thought reading was gonna be so hard but  When i started kindergarten I got a little better at reading. I know one of my favorite books was the cat in the hat by Dr. Seuss. His book was very popular around that time and a lot of kids were reading it. His books were the reason I started to love reading books and my reading started to improve as I got older.

I may not remember much of how I learned how to write but for the most part I do remember in kindergarten my teachers were always trying to help us learn how to write. I remember my teachers would give me those books that had all the letters of the alphabet dotted  and I would have to trace the letters capital and lowercase. We would practice on the chalkboard she would say letters like uppercase B or lowercase b pick a student we have to go to the board and write out the letter. I had trouble writing B’s they would always come out looking every other way than the way then the way it was supposed to look. My teacher made us practice writing all day if we had to, she wanted us to get this right. Soon she started to make us write out words and small sentences to help with using the letter of the alphabet properly.

As i got older moving from grade to grade my reading and writing just got better and better. My grandmother would always bring home books for me to read. Throughout my elementary school years we got a lot of reading logs. We had to read everyday for homework and write a short summary of what we read. When reading I always had to to sit in the dining room and read out loud. That actually helped me a lot when it came to reading, hearing myself pronounce the words. Reading and writing started to come easier to me thanks ton my teachers and my grandmother helping me get through it.

Life. life can be very difficult at times, life isn’t simple but its never easy. Life will bring change physically and mentally. Change can be very unexpected. As a teen watching myself mature and adjust to the changes that are happening everywhere made me realize that things can change within minutes. This pandemic was a huge game changer in my life, quarantine made me learn new things regarding myself, and made me reflect. Being inside made me change habits regarding my education and life.

Changes can happen in many different ways and dealt with in many different ways. In life every individual will experience change , it can be a change in a meal , style , passing in the family, or career. Each individual can handle change differently. In life accepting change can teach new skills. Many individuals want success which has to result in change. Taking risks can result in change, i believe in life an individual must experience change it can help them experience new things. This generation has had many changes.

When I was beginning my new path , I wanted change. Maturing and having a change in my mindset made me realize the significant things in life . I’m entering a new chapter in my life. This year has had many changes which included education being strictly virtual , I’m adjusting pretty well. Taking deep breaths , arranging my time , keep myself self assured will get me past this semester.
