Growing up learning how to read and write was a big difficulty for me, especially since I was growing up in a spanish speaking household. Thinking about it as much as I like to say that my first language is english in reality it’s most likely spanish. Both my parents at the time barely knew english since they had recently come from Honduras to  the U.S to live a better life. It took a great deal for mom to teach me how to write knowing that she barely spoke or read english. My mom first started teaching me to write at home when I was 3 or 4, that is before I went to school. The first thing she would teach me to write was the letter of the alphabets. She would dedicate her time to going over the alphabets one by one to make sure I had it down. It later went on to her teaching me to write my name and age at home. Also in the end she would go over writing some colors and numbers because numbers are needed for school.  Continue reading
