Recipe: Sewing a Tote Bag 

Materials:

• Sewing machine 
•  2 different Fabric for inside/outside/straps 
• Scissors
• Thread 
• Needle 
• Ruler
• iron

Directions:

1. Cut Two 14”x14” rectangles of the outer and inner fabric you chose. You should have two outside fabrics and two inside fabrics. 
2. Cut two pieces of the outer fabric 5”x28” for straps 
3. Fold the outer edge of each side of the strap. Strap should be 1.25 inches wide (use ruler to measure)
4. Pin in place and straight stitch along each edge length. ¼ inch seam allowance on sewing machine. 
5. Place the straps 2.5 inches from the edge of the one piece of outer fabric, pin it and sew it as close to the top edge of the bag as possible.
6. After attaching the straps, place the other outer fabric piece right side together, pin and sew ½ seam allowance, Sew together your inner fabric also. 
7. Get your inner and outer fabrics, lay them out using your ruler and a pencil make a 2 inch square at the button corner of each side on both inner and outer fabrics, cut out the square.
8. Pinch together the part you cut, pin it together and sew using  ½ inch seam allowance, You should have two bags inner and outer bag.
9. Put inner fabric inside the outer fabric, line up seams ,pin together and ½ inch seam allowance all around. Leave a part open 
10.  Using the opening turn the bag inside out, pin the opening and top stitch all around the top of the bag. 
11. NOW YOU HAVE TOTE BAG!!!

Notes: 

Try your best to keep the seam allowance as straight as possible. Take your time when using the sewing machine. Don’t try to rush go at your own paste.
