My name is Rachel Ramdeo and I am senior dental hygiene student at New York City College of Technology pursuing a career in dental hygiene. I have an expected graduation date of June 2016, which is in a few weeks. I was born in Trinidad and Tobago where I spent most of my childhood and teenage years. I moved to New York when I was 17 years old and it has been my home ever since. I am a mother of four children and I have to say, the past two years has not been an easy road. This has been one of those experiences where you look back and think WOW, it has been a long road and I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. It feels good to know I made my parents and family proud by graduating college. Before college, I worked as a babysitter, receptionist and marketer until I landed a job as a dental assistant. The pay was not great but I had no experience and I was thankful someone saw my potential and decided they wanted to train me. I grasped the skills needed to be an assistant very quickly and it was from there that I found my passion and my life changed instantly. For the first time in my life, I woke up excited to go to work and that is when I realized I needed to press on and attend Hygiene School. By the grace of God, I can say, I did it!! In my portfolio you will find information on my personal experiences, academics, career journey, and milestones related to my student life in Dental Hygiene. I hope you find my career journey to be unique, relevant and productive as I have. Thank you!
