Philosophy of Nursing

The profession of nursing entails respect for the client and their wishes. In order to provide proper care, we must examine our own views and beliefs to practice at our highest level. Compassion and altruism are the core values of nursing. Each individual is unique and should be treated in a holistic manner. We must acknowledge the clients courage in times of uncertainty. The interpersonal relationships which are fostered through caregiving offer a wealth of fulfillment. As nurses, we are leaders and contributors in the interdisciplinary field of health care. Nurses show commitment to the profession by continuing education, client advocacy/privacy, and providing competent care. One must be devoted to the practice because it is a labor of love. I did not find the field of nursing, it found me.
