At first as group we struggled with choosing a good topic for a research paper. However after a brief chat we could agree on one thing that everyone was familiar with, having lived in NYC. The topic was homelessness. Everyone who lives in the city is familiar with its less than fortunate residence, those who have fallen from good grace; be it temporarily or as is frequently the case permanently.
There are numerous aspects to the issue of homelessness which is exactly the reason that we choose to focus on it, specifically we focused on several different aspects of NYC Homelessness.
Who are the homeless, and what challenges do they face?- was a topic choice as defining the subject of the research is just as important as the actual research.
For this part it was important to get a clear idea of who what people can be classified as homeless. In order to do this Val, looked up the legal definition of the term and came away with the legal qualification for homelessness. What was learned from this was that there is a broad definition for who is considered homeless. Now knowing the who we needed to identify what challenges the homeless typically encountered. After listing several factors we had a broader picture of who the homeless were and what are some of the challenges that they face.
History- as it is important to understand the origins of a problem before it can be solved. NYC has a strong history of having a large homeless population which is proportionate to the inherent population of the city.

Furthermore we broke it down to
What factors lead to homelessness? –
Looking into how people become homeless was curious because we did not walk away with a concrete answer to the inquiry. Rather what we did learn is that there is a slew of things that could lead to someone becoming homeless. There were however several key factors that could be identified. The take away from this was that anyone could become homeless, and like anyone they are just people.
And lastly the two points on
Resources for the homeless and how can you help them? In order to identify how this issue could be helped and the people in need be aided. It is important to provide this information as otherwise all we would have done is identified the issue with out offering solutions.
