Chapter 10 Incident

In chapter 10 Linnet is nearly hit by a boulder at the Egyptian temple. No one saw who pushed the boulder, but they immediately suspected Jaclyn. However Jaclyn was on the boat when everyone returned, this removed her of suspicion.

Question

In chapter five of Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile, Jacqueline de Bellefort and Monsieur Hercule Poirot discuss the love, her and Simon shared and his relationship with Linnet. Jackie then states “Look at the moon up there. You see her very plainly, don’t you? She’s very real. But if the sun were to you wouldn’t be able to see her at all”. Linnet is the sun, Jackie is the moon when the sun shines it blinds you it’s all you see. To Simon and many others Linnet is the bright shining sun that shines on everyone. The moon can be seen clearly, it’s not shining upon you. The moon rather stays to itself, it doesn’t get in your eyes, you can’t feel it on your skin.

Tim Allerton and His Mother

Tim Allerton and his mother have an extremely co-dependent relationship, which is highlighted by the fact that they live together and vacation together. Mrs. Allerton is the more co-dependent of the two because she get jealous when Tim shows more attention to other women. From an outside perspective, Tim seems unaware of how close he is with his mother as if he doesn’t know how odd it may be.

Who is Linnet Ridgeway?

Linnet Ridgeway is a wealthy young woman who other characters describe as having it all, from money, to looks, and even brains. She has golden blonde hair and is described as having straight autocratic features. Linnet purchased the Wode estate in a town outside of London called Malton-under-Wode. The previous owner was Sir George who had to sell the estate after going bankrupt. She plans to spend thousands of dollars rebuilding the estate into a hotel, adding swimming pools, Italian gardens, and a ballroom. So far, some of her characteristics seem to be generous and trusting. She shares with her friend Joanna, and has tried to help her friend Jackie with money in the past though she denied. She defends Jackie when Joanna insists that Jackie wants something from her. At first she seems to be a nice person, however I feel that she was eager to boast her wealth in front of Joanna. Later my perception of Linnet changes as she refers to her mansion that costs a fortune as her new toy. Not to mention she ends up marrying Jackie’s fiancĂ©, so she turns out to be not a very good person contrary to prior belief.

Tevin “death on the Nile” Rosalie

In Agatha Christie’s “death on the Nile” Rosalie Robson is a young woman who is currently unwed, at first based on her interactions with Poirot or I was under the impression that she was married to him but was upset at the fact she wasn’t married to a younger man. Still, instead of an old man, this line of thought was put to rest after her jealousy towards linnet’s marriage is shown and her outburst about how much she hates linnet. Rosalie has a strained relationship with her mother this is shown when Rosalie has no emotion on her face while giving her mother something to drink and also when her mother says to Poirot that Rosalie should have some idea about her health insinuating she hasn’t informed her daughter about her deteriorating health.

DotN Chapters 1-6 Question

“Death on the Nile” starts off by taking place in Malton-Under-Wode which is a fictional place in a country village of England. The reason the story takes place here and why our main character, Linnet Ridgeway, is here is because she purchased the estate of the late Sir George Wode. There are many changes in setting, even as far as going to New York and this is to introduce new characters that become important to the story later on. Eventually, the story largely takes place in southern Egypt. So far, the story is mainly in this country village in order to introduce characters that become very important, such as Simon, Jackie, and Poirot.

Mrs. Otterbourne and Rosalie

In the mystery novel, “Death of the Nile” by Agatha Christie, there are two characters, Mrs. Otterbourne and her daughter Rosalie. Mrs. Otterbourne brought along with her daughter to an excursion to Egypt because she had grown tired of staying in Jerusalem. She has always wanted to move to Egypt because she believed that the Egyptian custom is more “fashionable.” Both of them are rich and wear brilliant clothing to show that. Rosalie is shown to have a bit of a bad temper with the huge frown of hers when staying in the hotel. She became self-aware when she questions whether she is conceitful towards Hercule Poirot.
