OpenLab assignment: what’s on your HOT topic cheat sheet???

Due Monday, September 26, 11:59pm

Different students have taken different approaches to HOT topic cheat sheets. Some students have included formulas; some students have included examples; some students have included a combination.

What’s on your cheat sheet? Snap a photo of a recent HOT topic cheat sheet and share it in a post on the OpenLab so your classmates can see what you thought was important to include.

  • Title of post: HOT topic cheat sheet (Standard #)
  • Category of post:

Then comment on a classmate’s post. What did you think was helpful or interesting in their cheat sheet? Did their approach inspire you to change how you prepare your own cheat sheet? Do you have a suggestion for how they can improve their cheat sheet?

Week 2 group assignment: HOT topic integration by substitution

Due Monday, September 12, 11:59pm

You will start working on this assignment with your group during Thursday’s class.

This week’s recommended HOT topic standard is:

  • Standard 1: Evaluate definite and indefinite integrals by substitution

(An integral may always be definite or indefinite; the important part to notice here is that the method of integration is substitution.)

In WeBWorK, you can generate a new HOT Topics practice set once every 24 hours. Every member of the group should generate a new set or open an old version.

  1. As a group, determine which practice question on each person’s set aligns with Standard 1.
  2. Then, as a group, choose three of these Standard 1 questions to answer. Work together to evaluate these integrals step by step.
  3. Decide which group members will write up complete solutions.
  4. These group members will each send a photo of their work to the secretary.
  5. The secretary will include the photos of the completed work in the group post:
    1. Title: “Week 2 group post: substitution”
    2. Category: Week 2 group post
    3. Make sure your post includes all the names of the group members present
