The importance of Taking your Dog Outdoors

When owning a dog, a pet owner is compared to a mother or father. This is due to the extreme responsibilities that come with owning a dog. I personally like to take responsibility for my dog and not just rely on professionals such as, vets or grooming specialist. Life is full of many obstacles and taking time to visit a vet or take your dog to a spa, so he or she can be groomed can many times be a difficult task, because of lack of time.  This is when as a pet owner you have to take a greater responsibility and manage your time to be able to take care of many of these tasks.  The task you don’t have to do daily are bathing your dog, trimming his or her nails, brushing your pet’s hair, cleaning its ears. Those tasks you can do when you have a greater break in your hand such as doing it on your day off. On the other hand the tasks you do need to be more concern about are the daily ones which are cleaning you dog’s teeth and taking him out.

Cleaning your dog’s teeth does not consume much time. It takes about 5-10 minutes daily. Our main concern as a dog owner is taking your pet out daily at least twice a day.  This is extremely important because exercise plays an extreme role in a dog’s life. When taken outdoors a dog can run, walk, play, socialize with you and other dogs, he will interact with nature, and take care of his needs. Also, taking you dog outside is a great way to practice training him to do certain things such as doing his needs outside. This will result in a well behaved dog. Another good reason why it is essential to take you pet outdoors is the bond that will grow between your dog and yourself. Since you are interacting with your dog, whether is walking, running or playing your pet will feel the connection between both of you and will love and obey its owner.

After a long day at home your pet will feel free and happy when taken outdoors. Since work or school can be a barrier in taking time to take your dog outdoors, I recommend in working around your schedule and sacrificing a few minutes or hour of your day. In my case, I walk my dog 30 minutes early in the morning before going to work and after I return from work I take him out for an hour. Many times you get home very tired and do not wish to be outdoors for so long; on those days I only take him out for another half an hour, instead of a whole hour.  Treat your dog as your child and do what is best for him or her, even if it means sacrificing some of your daily time.

A well exercised dog is a happy and healthy dog
