Mission Statement for Pimp My Dog

Mission

The strategic mission of Pimp My Dog is to provide my audience with ideas, products and great service, which will provide their dogs with tips for hygiene, beauty, and fashion. This topic inspired me, since I own a dog and once you have a pet; it is a priority to give it the proper hygiene while still making the pet look beautiful. My targets are present and future dog owners. I will like this audience to be award on how important it is to maintain your dog’s hygiene, and to also inform them great ways to provide their dogs with beauty and style them fashionably. The image I will like my blog to project is of being reliable, credible, appealing and writing with a tone of voice that will convince readers of my love and passion for dog’s appearance and health of all dogs. Pimp My Dog will help dog owners give their pets a healthier, happier and beautiful life.  The name Pimp my Dog fits my vision perfectly. When we think of the word “pimp” you automatically connect it to the words “beauty and style” if you have beauty and style you definitely have hygiene, because a pet without hygiene will never look beautiful no matter what fashion it has on. These three words all connect to the word “pimp” that’s why it fits perfectly with my vision of providing dogs with hygiene, beauty and fashion.  I was also inspired by three blogs: “Pitties in city”, “Groom Blog” and “Petsmart”. These blogs inspired me not only because they are about dogs, but because of their writing style, visual layout and approach. These areas are great inspirations in creating a successful blog.  Pimp my Dog will be designed to change the way dog owners take care of their dog’s health and appearance. After this blog, present and future dog owners will want to pimp their dog!

Grooming Series Part I: (Why Groom Your Dog)

Grooming your dog regularly will provide dogs with many benefits.  Dog grooming is very important not only for a dog’s the physical appearance but also for his emotional state. Grooming your dog will provide your dog with a healthier and more appealing life. When you groom your dog many diseases are prevented. Compare your dog to humans. As a human you take a daily shower, brush your teeth, shave and you always want to look nice and smell good; when comparing your dog is an animal but that doesn’t mean he or she wouldn’t feel the need to be clean, look or smell good. When people look at your dog’s appearance they also see what type of person you are. Grooming will make your dog and yourself look good in society. Also if you love your dog you will do anything to make him or her healthy.  To do so a proper grooming is needed. A proper grooming consists of three main steps: brushing, bathing and nail clipping. Grooming Series Part Ill: (Bathing Your Dog)

Bathing your dog at least once or twice a month is very important. A dog’s skin is very sensitive and needs to be cleaned. As a dog owner I bathe my dog twice a month, usually is recommended to bathe your dog every three months or so. Since my dog is very active and I take him out to walk daily, I prefer to bathe him more often. In the summer a dog’s skin and coat tends to get more dirty, sweaty and the odor is not very pleasant; therefore I bathe him three or four times a month. In the other season’s dog’s skin or coat do not go through such messy troubles. They are mainly home and they don’t get dirty, sweaty or smelly that often. Bathing is a great method to keep your dog clean and healthy. Also, there coat will always look neat and beautiful.

In order to successfully bathe your dog, I strongly recommend using dog shampoo. If human shampoo is used on dogs it has the outcome of irritating the dog’s skin or much more.  I use “Grreat Choice™ Oatmeal Enhanced Vanilla All Purpose Shampoo”.

This shampoo is great for everyday use. Has a great scent, is oatmeal enhanced, contains vitamins and it leaves your dog’s coat and skin clean, shinny, and beautiful.

Andrei Smith gives us a great tip for bathing your dog. He states that bathing with a rich lather using a great dog shampoo will remove dog and fleas from your pet’s skin. No more dry and itchy skin if your dog is free from harmful insects.

As instructed by any dog shampoo you decide to purchase, a dog needs to be bathed in warm water and remember to be patient and have fun with your dog when bathing him, so a special bond between owner and pet can grow. My strategy is to take certain toys my dog love to the tube so that he can play with them while I am bathing him. When I conclude the bath I tell him how good he was and cares him. These are small gestures and actions that will let your dog feel good and not be afraid of bathing. According to Med Help all dogs should be bathed every 4-8 weeks, depending on the breed and discretion of the owner, or unless directed by a veterinarian.

Grooming Series Part IV: ( Nail Clipping Your Dog)

Trimming your dog’s nails is beneficial for you and him. Long dog nails are not a good way to keep your dog with a neat appearance and with good hygiene. Dirt and other none sanitized things tend to accumulate under dog’s long nails, which will cause them to have many germs. Long nails are very uncomfortable and can avoid them from doing certain activities with the same agility that they are used to. Is a benefit to have your dog’s nails trim, since with long nails your dog can scratch himself, you and your furniture.

According to ASPCA it’s a good idea to get your dog used to having her feet touched before you attempt a nail trim. Rub your hand up and down her leg and then gently press each individual toe—and be sure to give her lots of praise and some food treats as you do this. Every animal is different, but chances are that within a week or two of daily foot massage, your dog will be better able to tolerate a trim. Trimming a dog’s nail is a delicate job to do,So taking him to a professional is strongly recommended.

Grooming Series Part Il: (Brushing Your Dog)

One of the quickest and easiest ways to make your dog look stupendous is by brushing his or her hair daily
. According to ASPCA regularly brushing your dog’s hair will help keep your pet’s hair in good condition by removing dirt, spreading natural oils throughout her coat, preventing tangles and keeping her skin clean and irritant-free.

Always be gentle when brushing your dog’s hair, since they are very sensitive. Also, dogs tend to be very impatient and never stay in one spot, that’s why is vital to train them to be still. Great way is by reinforcing them with treats. Teach them how to sit and stay still, once they see that what they are doing is good and they get a treat for it, they will continue to follow each time you command them because they will be expecting treat reinforcement. Brushing your dog daily will make your dog look presentable each day.  It’s also a great way to check for fleas.

The importance of Taking your Dog Outdoors

When owning a dog, a pet owner is compared to a mother or father. This is due to the extreme responsibilities that come with owning a dog. I personally like to take responsibility for my dog and not just rely on professionals such as, vets or grooming specialist. Life is full of many obstacles and taking time to visit a vet or take your dog to a spa, so he or she can be groomed can many times be a difficult task, because of lack of time.  This is when as a pet owner you have to take a greater responsibility and manage your time to be able to take care of many of these tasks.  The task you don’t have to do daily are bathing your dog, trimming his or her nails, brushing your pet’s hair, cleaning its ears. Those tasks you can do when you have a greater break in your hand such as doing it on your day off. On the other hand the tasks you do need to be more concern about are the daily ones which are cleaning you dog’s teeth and taking him out.

Cleaning your dog’s teeth does not consume much time. It takes about 5-10 minutes daily. Our main concern as a dog owner is taking your pet out daily at least twice a day.  This is extremely important because exercise plays an extreme role in a dog’s life. When taken outdoors a dog can run, walk, play, socialize with you and other dogs, he will interact with nature, and take care of his needs. Also, taking you dog outside is a great way to practice training him to do certain things such as doing his needs outside. This will result in a well behaved dog. Another good reason why it is essential to take you pet outdoors is the bond that will grow between your dog and yourself. Since you are interacting with your dog, whether is walking, running or playing your pet will feel the connection between both of you and will love and obey its owner.

After a long day at home your pet will feel free and happy when taken outdoors. Since work or school can be a barrier in taking time to take your dog outdoors, I recommend in working around your schedule and sacrificing a few minutes or hour of your day. In my case, I walk my dog 30 minutes early in the morning before going to work and after I return from work I take him out for an hour. Many times you get home very tired and do not wish to be outdoors for so long; on those days I only take him out for another half an hour, instead of a whole hour.  Treat your dog as your child and do what is best for him or her, even if it means sacrificing some of your daily time.

A well exercised dog is a happy and healthy dog
