William Ernest Henley and Lord Byron and Me (Ralph Lauren Ocampo)

The poem “She Walks in Beauty” is very iconic to highschool. Many English teachers would often assign this as homework and figuring out the meaning of the poem. The reason I like this poem is that it reminds me of my high school days. Where my friend and I often fooling around during our English Class. On how we argue the real meaning of this poem and why is it so popular in high school. The best line about this poem is when the author states “She walks in beauty, like the night Of cloudless climes and starry skies”. For this stanza alone. It gave me an appreciation of beauty. Where what I find beautiful may be ugly to others. But at the end of the day is just perspective to another person. The second poem that I really love since I was a child is a poem by Willam Henly title “Invictus”. The reason why I love this poem is because of the title. Where in Latin it means unconquerable” or “undefeated”. This poem gives me a feeling of being proud of what I have done no matter how hard life can be.  For example, this line stated

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody but unbowed.
Which basically means you cannot give up. Just because is hard it doesn’t mean you have to stop but instead, you have to keep continue moving forward. Let your past become a lesson to you as it will help you to become stronger. This is the reason why I love this poem so much as it gives me the motivation to do all my best.
