Being a nurse has been one of my dreams since I was a little girl. I have always said that: “ when I grow up , I want to be the girl who can help others in need, the girl that can make a difference all over the world .”
In January 2010, my country was devastated by an earthquake which took away many lives. I was there, watching a lot of people dying because they couldn’t get the medical care needed. At that time, I knew for sure that becoming a nurse was definitely my calling . I was like, “ I’ll be a nurse in case something like that happens again, so I can volunteer myself to go there and help my people, especially my family members and friends. I believe that if I become a nurse, I’ll definitely make a difference. I love doing things that can change people’s lives, and things that can make a difference .
When I first started at City Tech, I met a couple of friends who were also interested in the field, so I interviewed some of them about the reason why they want to become a nurse and I also asked them what their goals were. I was so happy to learn more about nursing because they give me a lot of information.
For instance, “Being a Nurse was always a dream of mine to help people with their health issues. Additionally, it is a career that helps individuals to save people’s lives and bring happiness to family members to those in need. When I was a little girl, I broke my right arm and I had to go to the hospital. The nurse that was taking care of me was really nice and sweet to me, she put a big smile on my face even though I was in pain. That was the moment I realized I wanted to be a nurse and since then I started dreaming about it, said: one of my interviewees. ”
As a nurse , you are constantly communicating with each other as well as patients and their families. Firstly they use non-verbal communication which includes making eye contact and controlling the tone of their voice, appropriate body language and simply adding a smile. Secondly, they also use verbal communication which includes speaking clearly, using complete sentences and considering the tone when speaking. Thirdly, as a nurse shows compassion to someone is part of the job to treat each other with respect. For instance, sometimes having a patient can be stressful and a patient may feel depressed or helpless, or over frightened. So as a nurse it’s our job to show compassion to them and to others and help them through hard times.
In the case of primary groups, communication is very effective. As a nurse it’s our job to make sure that we treat each other with respect and kindness. Communication plays an important role because we always want to check on them to make sure that everything is fine. It’s our biggest responsibility. First of all we have to show them respect and treat them with kindness and also we have to have patience with them especially during intense stress. As a nurse, we are constantly put in different situations that can be really challenging. Therefore, effective communication is everything we need to stay connected with our patients.
Another primary goal of a professional nurse is to be able to function as primary providers of health care services to individuals, families and communities. Being able to work hand in hand with physicians, therapists and other health professionals. An educated practitioner wants the opportunity to work in a variety of settings including community agencies, home care, schools or travel. The goal is to be patient centered care that reflects ethical clinical judgement and inter-professional collaboration. to practice in the delivery of care within a variety of environments with the goal of reducing health disparities, while using the latest technology innovations. having the ability to contribute to the profession of nursing by engaging in leadership, scholarship, and practice activities.’ The ultimate goal is to develop as a professional to meet the evolving healthcare needs of society.
According to this article,” Standard Nursing Language,” Jan. 31, 2008, the author states that, “language is used to facilitate quality care and educate recipients of that care. In today’s somewhat litigious society, it is essential that what is transmitted is commonly interpreted by nurses and patients alike. Questions are passed relating to an elitist language for nurses and it’s placement care professionals language does elite power and authority when educating and communicating with patients.”
Before getting into nursing, a person should know that everything will be different once you get into it. A person should also know that being a nurse is not an easy job and it’s really challenging. They should know that we are the most trusted profession for a good reason. We are responsible for our patients. Their lives depend on us. We speak for them when they are unable to speak for themselves. Even though sometimes it might be very hard to tell the truth about them, However it’s our job to let it out no matter what. That’s what makes a person a good nurse. We have to be honest to our patients and it really takes heart to do this job. It’s really challenging not only physically but also mentally there will be time that patients will feel hopeless and don’t feel like fighting anymore. As a nurse we will have to be brave and positive because what we see are subjected to on a daily basis is not easily digestive. Not everyone can handle it. There Will be time that a person will feel like giving up because the stress is real. However, they cannot because they have many people depending on them , many lives to save . At that moment , a person will need to be really strong and motivational in order to succeed.
To sum up, “ Nurse is a career that saves lives, brings happiness to individuals and their families , and comfort to those in need. It can be really challenging , however, it can help us make a difference because we get to change people’s lives and help them fight through their intense moments.

Great insight into the world of nursing! Could you interview more nursing students to get a broader view of why they’ve chosen such a challenging field?
