Good Morning,
I apologize for the last minute cancellation yesterday. There is no need to adjust the schedule, we will just catch up in the next class or two. Please read the updates below carefully.
SP
For class Wednesday:
Regarding Essay #1 Drafts:
I emailed the majority of the Essay #1 Drafts I had left– minus a few to people who I did not have email addresses for. If you did not receive your draft, you can come pick it up today from 11am-4pm in N506. If you cannot make it today, you can send me an email request your draft and I will get it to you ASAP. (**Those of you who emailed me Sunday night or yesterday will be receiving a response today.)
Extra Office Hours:
I will be available in N506 on Wednesday 3/13 from 1-2pm and 5:15-6:00pm, as well as on Thursday 3/14 from 1-2pm (club hour).
Class is cancelled today, Monday 3/11. I will send an update later.
Hope you all enjoyed the snow day!
I have posted an updated schedule on OpenLab–please take a careful look at the changes for the next few weeks.
I will hold extra office hours this week for those of you looking for extra help with Essay #1. I will be available:
You do not need to make an appointment to come see me at these times.
The Learning Center, located on the ground floor of the Library Building, has tutors who can help you with your essays. Specifically, they are very helpful if you need to work on: grammar, sentence structure, vocabulary, or general proofreading.
Tutoring is free!! Take advantage of this service!!
Tutoring Hours: Monday – Thursday 10am-5pm
*We will talk more about tutoring when I return Essay #1 drafts/Response Papers on Wednesday.
For Wednesday 2/27, please read the following:
Revision (Paruolo & Rodgers)
Structural Revision (Paruolo & Rodgers)
Line Editing (Paruolo & Rodgers)
Proofreading (Paruolo & Rodgers)
Revising Drafts (UNC Writing Center)
*These are all very short readings– don’t be fooled by the number of links. **You do NOT need to print out these readings, but please take notes so you have something to look at in class.
Just a reminder…
I do not accept late drafts (see syllabus and Essay #1 assignment sheet for details). This means, if you did not hand in a draft/short response paper last week, I will not accept it. If you would still like my feedback on your paper, you are welcome to come to my office hours today, from 1-2pm in Namm 506 with a copy of the essay and we can go over it together. This will not change the grade of zero you receive for a missing draft.
In any event, if you did not hand in a draft, please bring a printed copy with you to class on Wednesday. I will hand back the drafts I received last week, and we will talk about editing and revising for the final version.
**Don’t forget to read “How to Tame a Wild Tongue,” by Anzaldua for class today!**
Here are the changes to our schedule for the next two weeks:
Mon 2/11— Read: “Learning to Read,” Malcolm X
Wed 2/13— Watch: “I’m Articulate,” Jamila Scott AND Read: “If Black English Isn’t A Language, Then Tell Me What Is,” James Baldwin
Mon 2/18— No Class
Wed 2/20— Read: “How to Write and Why,” Nawal El Saadawi AND Hand in: Short Response Paper/First Draft of Essay #1
Class is cancelled today, Wednesday 2/6.
This cold has finally gotten the better of me, and I have lost my voice entirely. I will post an update later today or tomorrow about what you should have prepared for next Monday (2/11).
