Objectives

  • Classify common sequential patterns such as “arithmetic” and “geometric”
  • Compare and contrast recursive and closed strategies for describing functions.
  • Identify similarities and differences between functions \(f(x)\) and sequences \(a_n = a(n)\)
  • Interpret the graphs of sequences to distinguish characteristics:
    • monotone increasing, monotone decreasing, or neither
    • bounded or unbounded
    • convergent or divergent
  • Compare and contrast limits of sequences \(\displaystyle \lim_{n\to\infty}\,a_n\) and asymptotic behavior of functions \(f(x)\).
