PICO is not just for large research studies. Understanding the fundamentals of PICO will help to develop new techniques, eliminating the “that is the way we have always done it” mentality. PICO can create change in the workplace and improve patient outcomes.

We can find sources of research problems within our unit. Think infection
Problems within the community: homelessness, poverty, obesity
Problems within the political system: cuts to healthcare funding or misappropriation of funds
Problems within the Law: Patient rights
Problems within technology: data breaches
Database Exploration
What are the best nursing databases?
Where will I find statistical evidence for my question?
What databases, outside of nursing, will enhance, provide further evidence of the need for a change?
Go to the Library and search the words in your question, and narrow your search to the 5 key studies/articles that will support your work
