During the 2 years in the dental hygiene program we have had a lot of hands on training with many different case types. Listed is some of the skills I was able to acquire.
- Review a patients medical history; gaining as much information about the patient as possible prior to treatment.
- Extra oral and intra oral screening
- Dental charting
- Periodontal screening and charting
- OHI- teaching a patient home care that is specific for their case type.
- Deep scaling and debridement with hand instruments and ultrasonic
- Application of topical anesthetic
- Engine polishing and Air polishing
- Application of fluoride varnish, foam, and gel.
- Exposing film radiographs and processing
- Exposing digital radiographs and PANS
- Radiograph interpretation
- Proper documentation of all treatments rendered
