Donna Haraway’s A Cyborg Manifesto

Thoughts and takings from the reading (pgs 1-8)

Initially, the reading proved to be quite difficult until I understood that Haraway was using the concept of the cyborg to metaphorically denounce the boundaries between genders from a socially constructive standpoint.

She touches on points that are relative to science and technology as well as the social constructs that exist within the time period of her writing the text (the 1980s).

This was definitely a controversial text considering the social standards and constructs that were in place and existent in the 1980s. Donna Haraway was attempting to tear down barriers that were solidly in place and ironically, not much in place in today’s more open-minded society.
