Blues

Blues music was born during the period of American slavery where its roots dig deep into African-American history. The birthplace of jazz was in the Mississippi Delta, New Orleans. Unlike its similar cousin, jazz, blues didn’t spread as quickly as jazz. It took a bit longer. Blues then began to branch out from blues alone to blues rock, or blues soul. There are countless different innovations on the genre, adding to it and mingling it with other genres to create a modern sound.

When you think of the blues, you think about misfortune, betrayal and regret. You lose your job, you get the blues. Your mate falls out of love with you, you get the blues. Your dog dies, you get the blues.

Examples of famous bluesers are Blind Lemon Jefferson, Leadbelly, Charlie Patton and Robert Johnson, which played electric guitar solos in most of their songs.
