Problem 2

Description

For problem 2 we needed to theoretically build and install a raised and sloped deck for a concert and then a talent show. We first needed to figure out the simplest and most efficient way of producing a sloped stage. As a group we came up with using triscuits and stud walls. One problem that needed to be solved was that we needed to accommodate both shows using one stage. One show requested that the floor of the stage have their logo in the center, and the other show needed a plain black floor. We decided on using removable sheets of MDF to switch between both events. Another problem that needed to be solved was determining how we were going to build the corner returns on the staircase that ran the full front of the deck. We decided on using stack platforms to create a staircase. For me personally, trying to figure out the build method for the corners of the staircase was the hardest, mainly because I have never built it or have seen it being made. The solutions we used worked for our problem.Ā  I also made a 3D rendering in Google Sketch-up to get our points across, and to help as a visual aid when communicating our idea as a group.

Analysis

This problem can actually be something that you would see in a real life application. There isnā€™t much that would be different in a real world application. This project could very well be something that couldā€™ve been done at City Tech.

Application

From this problem I got a better realization that visual aids help a lot in communicating your ideas. Also, that simple 3D renderings can help you ā€œtest runā€ your idea to see if there is something that was overlooked. Like for this problem, myself, and the rest of the class didnā€™t see that there would a ā€œlipā€ between the back staircase and the last row of triscuits in the back, due to the angle at which the triscuit lies.
