Reading #8

In reading 8, Ching goes in depth with many of the elements that go into building a ā€œmodernā€ and effective wall. Modern because it has been looked over and mastered in a way so that they do more than keep you in closed. Exterior walls must provide protection from the weather. Like the sun, wind and all around temperatures. According to the weather outside the wall has a specific way to handle it. Roofing materials provide the water-resistant covering for a roof system. Some factors to consider when trying to construct a roof is the material requirements for installation, maintenance, and durability, resistance to wind and fire, and, if visible, the roofing pattern, texture, and color. Many more things go into making a wall, like veneers made in different types of materials. All requirements to make a successful constructed wall.

Reading #6

In reading these weeks, Ching went deep with many of the basic building materials that we are using today. Some of them are made of wood, masonry, concrete, steel and stone. Because of its qualities, each material has its own advantages when used and some or used instead of others. Concrete is made by mixing different aggregates with enough water and in combination with steel is very useful. Masonry is basically stonework and when stacked on top of each other, it is very useful. Therefore, steel has strength and hardness qualities for making it more preferable with concrete. Wood is good for convenience where the material itself is strong, durable, lightweight and easy to use.Ā Stone is a combination of many materials and it needs to fulfill all these requirements in order to become stone: strength; hardness; durability; work ability; density and appearance. As stated before each building material, certain criteria must be met to select the use when building a structure.

Reading #4

In reading #4 Chin describes the fundamentalĀ basic building block for a structural system. The best way to start of structure is with a more rectangular shaped postal and lintel frame work. For example that system is when the ration of the long to shot damsons is greater than 1.5:1. When the system is close to complete or before you begin to do such, you have to make sure which system youā€™ll use. Different materials and different spacing for the system is needed for various damsons of the site. You can use a grid to help you process and understand the fundamental system that you need for your building. When contrasting a lateral force you must have a center of mass as strong as possible.

READING #3

When we construct structures, we should think about gravity, gravity makes objects fall, we should likewise think about Newton’s third law of movement – for each power following up on the body, the body applies the contrary size on indistinguishable line of activity from the first Power, this fundamentally discloses to us that when we manufacture a building, we should strike a harmony between power. Basic components must pursue the premise of these standards. Basic power is any impact that causes changes in the shape or development of the body. Structures like Coulms help bolster the heaviness of items above it. We should realize that these articles are solid, so they are not squashed or twisted by their own weight. The bars must be sufficient so they don’t fall into the heap (bowing worry) above them, and the curves should likewise have the capacity to help them. The quality and capacity to scatter gravity so they are not obliterated independently.

Building Components

Building elements, everything that goes into building the building. The components that top off the inside of a working as far as definition, scale, extent, and association. There is a sure measure of room required for even and vertical pathways, and ought to contain certain characteristics, for example, the structure, space, light, shading, surface, and example. Each building must have an auxiliary framework, which is built contrastingly relying upon the heaviness of the building. With this, a building must incorporate a nook framework, which is for all intents and purposes the dividers and top of the building that shields it from the climate and certain exposures. Another component that must be incorporated on a building is the mechanical framework, which gives certain administrations that the general population in the building could profit by. this incorporates a water supply, squander transfer, transportation of overwhelming things and a huge measure of individuals, warming, and electrical frameworks.

Reading Summary #1

Egress is the means of getting all occupants of a building out safely and accordingly. A building has many codes it has to follow in order to keep egress to its standards. For example, the building needs to have a specific occupant load. If this load is over its max it can be unsafe when fleeing away from harm inside the building. The occupant load establishes the required number of the width of all the exits.Building codes also have the requirement of the fire resistance rating of material, te fire alarm sprinkler and safety systems. They specify the maximum distance of travel to an exit and the maximum distance between distance between the exits.Stairway widths, landing, handrails, nosing of treads all have specific measurements that lend to the required means of egress.
