Egress/Staircase Reflection

Egress, exit, exit discharge are all words used in architecture to describe the way people evacuate a building. Today I learned about how each hallway must have exit indicators, such as exit signs and free pathways to the exit. Exit pathways must be fire resistant which are determined by testing design samples in realistic conditions of fire, smoke, and heat. The time before an exit experience these conditions determine the fire rating. Exits usually provide staircases which must be consistent in length, height, width so that each persons can exit safely. Doors must swing towards the exit access which causes less congestion of persons. This class really is important to use in other classes because the steps to design a building will always follow these ideas and sets of rules. This is one of those lessons that you wouldn’t be able to forget because one is always using these two systems of stairs and exits.

Reflection 1 Stairs

When it comes to the development of stairs, Francis Ching described different ways in order to have a well-developed functioning stairwell. That is properly evaluated and measured that way people have easier access. We’ve covered that Exit Access, which is the path or passageway leading toward an exit that is not blocked of and such. The exits which are enclosed to protect the people within the inside and remains to be fireproof for a great amount of time to give people a chance to leave. As well for the exit discharge which is allowing to person or people to leave the remotely impacted spaced to a safer environment towards a public area.Ā  People are required to leave safely

Concept Map Reflection

I really like how the concept map displays that architecture really gives a structure its essence. Such as how materials make up the building, wood, masonry, steel or concrete give a building different insides. Structure is the way these materials are used to support weight, weather and complex designs. But architecture is the whole point of a project. Architecture gives art to a building, purpose, and many different ways to interpret a space. This concept map is easy to look at but breaking up each category just gives a little insight on how much more architecture really is. Architecture is what people really see to be honest. Looking at a building the last thing you are going to notice is the Load bearing walls or the point load frame system. One would notice the materials after admiring the design of the structure but this is my way of looking at architecture.

Concept Map Reflection

Based on the Concept Map and to my extent of understanding Architecture, Architecture is not just about building and creating but its about the basic materials Incorporated into structures and different concepts such as proper habitation for human life, sustainability, and circulation.

Reflection from reading 1

Reading number 1, had a numerous amount of resources and information for understanding and learning the construction process, materials, and elements into designing a successful building. From reading the material, every elements has a specific type of process and its important to understand that process because without it, then the building design can fail. I found out that various materials such as steel, concrete, masonry, stone, wood, and lumber all play an important role. Each have qualities of different components such as mass, density, volume. Without these materials there is no structure Ā They are the main s material that creates the house figure. After you choose a structure, you have to choose which type of surface you choose. Each surface also has its own components, process, and materials that are carefully used in order to make the base material for your building. From looking at the information i now understand the various components of each and how the mixture of raw materials play a huge role. Each material has its input and output, in other words its that life-cycle inventory that does this process. I learned how raw materials, plays a role for the process/manufacture, which plays a role for the distribution and transportation, which plays a role for the construction and maintenance, and that also plays a role in the disposal and you finally get to the output. Its important to understand this because these are the phases of combining raw material which is needed to tact the structure of the design. As seen in the diagrams and charts, measurements are a huge aspect as well as understanding the different types of materials that are being used. Overall, i have gotten a better outlook and understanding on the process of how building materials and elements are an important part when construction a building.

Concept Map Reflection

The concept map displays that there is more to architecture than ā€œjust a buildingā€. It consists of a diverse set of principles which includes functionality, creativity, and reliability. These set of principles can be categorized by three means: materials, structure, and space. For instance, in materials: concrete, steel, and wood can be used to create the product of the building as they all prove to be viable materials, but construction items for both the building and support . For structure different techniques can be applied to help support it- load bearing walls or a frame system. In space, circulation and stairs are key components that bring not only life into a room, but as well contribute to reliability as they provide easier methods of travel throughout a building. Furthermore, when one brings all these categories together, they have a sense of direction as of how to build the building.

Refection on map

After overseeing and discussing the concept map for the outline of our course, I feel that the map is visually descriptive into understanding what architecture is all about and the standard structure for designing a building. You canā€™t do one thing without the other, then there will be no stability or structure. From the concept map, its giving me a better understanding on how to properly construct any building, before its completion. i feel that this map is very organized by category and its helpful because its showing the materials that potential clients could ask for, showing the space and what systems are used to be successful in this career

Concept Map Reflection

After talking about the concept map in class, I’ve come to understand the Ā concept map in architecture is a visual representation of what is needed to Ā start a structure to a building and how if it does not meet to requirements it wouldn’t be correct. It is Ā not only about just building, it is Ā also all about what materials would go with what, and with the concept map you can do it with steps and in order and also having a better understanding about the smaller details while developing ideas to before creating your final project.

Concept Map Reflection

The Concept Map displays the factors that make up the multi-faceted study of Architecture. Architecture involves having sustainable shelter, functionality, and implementing artistic and cultural ideas. To construct a place where people will occupy, one must be aware of the importance of material, space, and structure. How a building is made internally and externally affects the feelings of the person occupying the space. The Concept Map offers a simple depiction of what Architecture is.

Concept Map Reflection

In my opinion, the concept map is a visual representation of architecture as a whole. It shows the connection of different fundamental parts that all relate back to each other perfectly to give you a better understanding and definition of architecture.
