Notes for the Red Hook Winery Presentation (Front & Back sections)

1. It is really important that the front of the building is protected because thats where all of the waves are mostly likely going to hit first. You need to cover up any openings such ass doors & windows to prevent the water from getting inside the building.

2. Since these sectional drawings cut through the middle looking at both sides, you see the the cast iron pintle which keeps the building balanced, the floor beams, floor griders running across and the floor planking which is the decking.

3.In case of a storm, what we might want to do is maybe try to get the wooden columns temporarily covered with some sort of membrane to keep the columns from being present to water because when you change the moisture of a wood, it can get damaged which can cause problems later on. We want to avoid those problems.

Notes for The Red Hook Winery Presentation

Site plan.

1. The drawing shows closeness and exposure of Pier 41 to water, it depth and direction of incoming waves

2. It gives an idea of building base system showing the openings and blind arches, through which water entered the building during Sandy.

3. The drawing contains information about FEMA zone resignation and base flood elevation.

December 09th red hook addition discussion

  1. Arch action aperture protection device. 2 Large and 2 small … kept off site
  2. Venetian Flood Gate in case of minor high water event *installed and kept off site
  3. Perforated piping system. * series of trenches that lead out to the water, to relieve hydro static pressure on slab. * if water is too high piping will be connected to a pump.
  4. A bench system will be installed in the barrel storage room 3 feet off the floor which may require a machine other than the fork lift to move barrels.
  5. Water proof containment systems, enclose the barrels in a metal enclosure system to keep them dry.
  6. store room shelves height up to the ceiling for dry storage.
  7. toilets and rooms wet proof, take very type of wood out of the space and replace with resilient material. e.g  stone, tiles anything not impacted by salt water.
  8. electrical equipment higher on the walls.
