2020 Fall Term (1) Com­mu­ni­ca­tion De­sign II COMD 2400 OL12[26425]

In this course, stu­dents learn to re­fine their con­cep­tual think­ing, and the abil­ity to apply de­sign con­cepts across var­i­ous media chan­nels. This course chal­lenges stu­dents to think and strate­gi­cally apply cam­paign ideas. At this stage, stu­dents choose a media place­ment and in­cor­po­rate it into the so­lu­tion. Pro­ject based as­sign­ments from con­cept through final dig­i­tal out­put are an in­te­gral part of the course. The course also in­tro­duces the col­lab­o­ra­tive re­la­tion­ship be­tween Art Di­rec­tor and Copy­writer. Stu­dent teams brain­storm, de­velop copy, art di­rect and pitch ideas in teams. Stu­dents will ex­plore the di­a­logue be­tween prod­ucts and ser­vices and how to com­mu­ni­cate their ben­e­fits and fea­tures to the in­tended tar­get.

Prin­ci­ples of three-di­men­sional de­sign. Course cov­ers an analy­sis of form and space. Top­ics in­clude: hol­low forms both geo­met­ric and or­ganic; ar­chi­tec­tonic or­ga­ni­za­tion of space; light and shadow; geo­met­ric solids; the mod­u­lar unit; form and struc­ture in na­ture; lin­ear forms with mem­branes; move­ment. Ap­pli­ca­tions to pack­ag­ing, ar­chi­tec­ture, sculp­ture and en­vi­ron­men­tal de­sign and graph­ics. Ma­te­ri­als and in­her­ent prop­er­ties gov­ern­ing their use in form and space.

ENG 2400 Film from Lit­er­a­ture, Spring 2021

ENG 2400 is a course that al­lows stu­dents to ex­am­ine the re­la­tion­ship be­tween films and their lit­er­ary sources. Through on­line class­room dis­cus­sion and out-of-class as­sign­ments, stu­dents will an­a­lyze clas­sic and con­tem­po­rary lit­er­ary texts and their cin­e­matic ver­sions. Stu­dents will ex­am­ine the re­la­tion­ship be­tween film and lit­er­a­ture, with spe­cific focus on the tech­niques used in fic­tion, drama, and film and cen­tral con­cepts such as iden­tity, the quest, and home­sick­ness. Stu­dents will focus on the sim­i­lar­i­ties and dif­fer­ences of lit­er­ary works adapted into films.

This be­gin­ning pho­tog­ra­phy course ex­plores the foun­da­tional con­cepts of light and ex­po­sure. Using dSLR cam­eras, pro­fes­sional light­ing equip­ment and soft­ware, the stu­dent de­vel­ops com­po­si­tional skills and the abil­ity to con­trol pho­to­graphic style to cre­ate vi­su­ally en­gag­ing pho­tographs.
