Joseph Velazquez’s Profile
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Joseph began his creative career at Fashion Industries High School. He later attended Kingsborough Community College where he graduated with an Associates Degree in Graphic Design and Science (AAS).
Joseph’s work was first published after completing a project for Kingsborough Community College Journal Reads; the journal features creative and scholarly work by hundreds of KCC students on the 2013-2014 book “Eating Animals,” by Jonathan Safran Foer. He was awarded with the 2014 Social Justice Award for his work on ‘Eating Animals’ and was named the contest winner for the cover art of the KCC Journal Reads.
Following after that he was then awarded with Recognition Award for significant contributions to the community and the service learning program at KCC, for women’s abuse awareness.
Joseph spent a year as the Graphic Design Intern at Cupcake Digital where he worked directly under the Senior Graphic Designer. Here he designed the layouts, banners, and icons for all social media platforms and all technology platforms, such as iPhones, iPads, Android, and many other devices. While at Cupcake Digital, Joseph completed a wide variety of assigned design projects for companies such as Viacom, DreamWorks, and other children based licensed properties. Other duties included designing materials for company’s website, weekly newsletters, and social media campaigns.
Aside from his work as an intern, he has provided his trade and passion as a freelance designer for several years. Such work includes logo design, packaging design, and printed collateral.

COMD4900 Internship HD97 GOETZ Fall 2017
Student is assigned to find fieldwork/study situations of approximately eight hours per week at an internship site approved by the Department Internship instructor. Approved Sites include advertising agencies, graphic design firms corporate design offices, publications art departments, photography or illustration studios, TV or multimedia production companies. Students will be required to keep a learning journal of their internship in the form of a blog using Openlab. A portion of the class will be devoted to presenting and sharing experiences with classmates. Students will learn how to assess their talents, update their resume, and promote themselves and their work through social networks during class meetings. Students will be required to setup and maintain at least two social media networks such as: Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest.
