A survey of the development of architectural and scenic styles in the physical structure of theatre from its beginnings in ancient Greece to its most current forms. Emphasis placed on the stylistic influences of theoreticians and artistic movements. Interdisciplinary Option: This course is a conversation between theater history and architecture. As such, the work in class focuses on purpose-built and adapted spaces for live performance. Each week we will examine historical theatre spaces and technologies in the context of prevailing cultural and social forces in order to better understand audience/stage relationships. To fulfill the interdisciplinary requirements for this course, specialists from architecture, art history, and performance technology will guest lecture six times over the course of the semester.Students will learn skill-sets from architecture technology: GIS mapping and hand sketching. COMD2320 HD03 25686 Introduction to Video

This course is an introduction to the basic components and practices of pre-production, production and post production methodologies for content creation in commercial video and film. Students will learn the basics of all stages of production for content creation. The course will explore modes of communication such as commercials, public service announcements, fictive works, documentary and journalism. Students will analyze the fundamental principles of film and television communications with emphasis on examining the interaction of design and technology. Post-Production exercises with software such as Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects will be an integral part of the course. These assignments demonstrate proficiency in pre-production and production of content for film and video.

Graphic Design Principles 1 spr ’21

This basic design and color theory course explores graphic communication through the understanding of the elements and principles of design, as well as the design process, including idea development through final execution. Students develop basic skills in twodimensional design, color and content creation while employing the design process of research, sketching and experimentation. Communication designers use the concepts explored in this course in disciplines such as advertising, graphic design, web design, illustration, broadcast design, photography, and game design.

Explore creative visual communication through graphic design. Using type and graphics, students will participate in the process of communicating concepts by experimenting with image-making techniques. Acquire the professional knowledge, language, and processes needed—from initial thumbnail to final presentation—in multiple disciplines such as graphic design, web design, advertising, motion, illustration, broadcast design production, and others.

This beginning photography course explores the foundational concepts of light and exposure. Using dSLR cameras, professional lighting equipment and software*, the student develops compositional skills and the ability to control photographic style to create visually engaging photographs. *if this course is being held online due to an emergency, students will meet learning outcomes using alternate tools and equipment.
