Through the examination of the earliest gestures of cave drawings to sophisticated multimedia narratives, students study the ingredients and structures necessary for compelling digital storytelling. Through hands-on projects, students produce visual, auditory, written, physical and integrated sequences using video, sound, music, text, animation, web, mobile, games and the internet of things.

This course offers a cross-disciplinary foundation for the design of games and interactive multi-media technology for artists, designers and technologists. Students will learn human-centered design principles and apply these methodologies to collaborative team-based projects across web, mobile and games. Using case studies, brainstorming processes, and rapid analog and digital prototyping, students learn design thinking and problem-solving techniques to enhance usability, incorporate sensory experience, influence perception, increase appeal, and make more effective interactive design decisions.

MTEC3230 Mixed Reality for Immersive Worlds, SP2019

This course will explore the new frontier of virtual, augmented and mixed reality across different market sectors. Students will experiment with designing and developing game-based and interactive projects employing AR, VR, wearables, IoT, and machine learning for mobile, web and console environments. Students will learn the fundamentals of Unity development, 3D modeling, stereoscopic perception and experiential design in the context of storytelling and content creation specific to these emerging forms. Students will work in small teams on collaborative projects with the latest head-mounted and sensor technology.

Citytech E-Sports Club

Citytech E-Sports Club

The Citytech E-Sports club is a community that bring students together who have an interest in competitive gaming and gaming in general. The club aims to build a community where students can socialize, compete and express their passion for gaming and the competitive side to it. Members will be in a friendly environment where games are brought to a competitive level, being able to learn from each other, sharing strategies and developing new knowledge. The club also seeks to be able to compete at collegiate competitions at a national level. Other plans include hosting local prized gaming tournaments in the school itself. A space to create & playtest digital experiences. Come make video games, interactive art installations, VR/AR, mobile apps, wearables, soundscapes, and literally anything else you can think of. We meet every Thursday @ 1-2pm in room V-314. Have an idea, but don’t know where to start? Come talk about it & meet other students willing to make it happen. New to creative software? Take crash courses in Unity, Processing/p5, Blender, and more. Looking for materials? We’ve got sensors, breadboards, and Arduinos. Need help / wanna collab? Team up with City Tech’s artists, programmers, designers, and music producers. Even if you can’t make it to club meetings, catch us @ immersive popups & art shows all over NYC.
