Colleen Birchett, Ph.D.’s Profile

Pedagogy of Teaching Writing, African American Studies, Womanist, Liberationist and Postcolonial Theology.
Dr. Birchett teaches English 1121, 1101 and Introduction to Literature, 2000. She has been teaching at City Tech since the Fall of 2011. She has a Masters of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary and an M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. Her dissertation title is “Using Television to Cultivate Cognitive Skills involved in Descriptive Writing”. Her M.Div. Thesis title is “Hagar in the Hip Hop Wilderness”. Among her publications is a study guide to Michelle Alexander’s classic, “The New Jim Crow,” and “Africans Who Shaped Our Faith, a study of Africans in the Bible”, co-authored with Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr.. She has served as a columnist for “Trumpet Magazine”, and as served as the editor and writer of curriculum materials for young adults and teenagers.
