This course connects the science of Biology with the issues, problems and promises created by that science. We will explore the connection between the science of Biology and the real world issues, for example how global warming affects flooding and droughts as well as how both fields ask effective questions.

This course connects the science of Biology with the issues, problems and promises created by that science. We will explore the connection between the science of Biology and the real world issues, for example how global warming affects flooding and droughts as well as how both fields ask effective questions.

In this course students are required to learn the biological concepts such as photosynthesis, respiration, genetics, evolution etc. Students taking their first college course often struggle to successfully complete the science course because they lack important skills that are required in college. These skills include the ability to read textbooks and determine the major ideas presented therein, the ability to communicate ideas in writing, and the ability to analyze and solve problems. This course will strengthen these skill using exercises that emphasize reading, writing, and critical thinking.
