Abenezer Bereket’s Profile
astromey
At the beginning of my academic journey in city tech, I had a completely different plan for my future. I had a vested interest in astronomy and art From a young age. In high school, I joined different physics and astronomy clubs in school, and I even took a cosmology class at the natural history museum after school.
When I entered city tech I spent the first 2 years taking physics classes, which I didn’t mind very much. The workload was a lot and there were a lot of math classes, but it was still interesting. I also thought I would have more opportunities if I majored in physics. During this time I was also taking art classes as electives, It has always been a hobby of mine I enjoyed. Around the end of my 2nd year in city tech, I realized I looked forward to my art classes a lot more than my physics or math classes. I also excelled a lot more in my art classes than I did in physics. So I took the time to look into the jobs I can get with a physics degree and compared them to COMD. I realized then that I was a lot more interested in following a creative pursuit. So I switched my major and dedicated my time to improving my artistic skills. Since then I have been involved in various production and fabrication projects. Like assisting in making puppets for a play, and assisting in big mural projects around New York City, Philly, and Atlantic City. I also did some of my murals on a much smaller scale. Right now I’m working for a painter here in the city as a fabrication and studio assistant.
My current goal is to develop skills that will allow me to make a decent living doing freelance or temporary work. I hope this will give me the freedom to work on my projects and start my online business. I want to make things that I can be proud of and still be able to eat well.
My main interest is in fine arts and filmmaking ( mainly animation). I am currently working on my own projects to develop my skills and hopefully get some recognition. I hope the rest of my time here at city tech will help me reach my goals.
