Logo: Bimbo Bear

Bimbo is a Mexican multinational food company with its products located over 33 countries. The founders of the company were Lorenzo Servitje, Jaime Jorba, Jaime Sendra, José T. Mata, Alfonso Velasco, and Roberto Servitje. The founders of the company had the vision of “baking bread that would be good, nutritious, tasty, fresh… to make it well: with sanitary, with the greatest perfection and to please and nourish, thus reaching every home in Mexico”.

Bimbo’s logo is mainly known for having a cute fluffy bear. It’s an eye-catching logo for many Hispanics, and how the bear became the logo is a story itself. One day Jaime Jorba one of the founders of the Bimbo company received a Christmas gift with a drawing of a bear. Anita Mata wife of Jaime Sendra another founder drew a hat over the bear’s head with an apron and bread. With this drawing, Alfonso Velasco modified the design of the nose to complete a mascot that represents the cleanliness of the soft white bread.

Evolution of Bimbo Bear

The first drawing of Bimbo Bear was made in 1945 where the bear was created and designed by a simple Christmas gift drawing. By 1947 the bear went through some modifications as it was made cuter, and smoother, and some added color with the word B on his hat to represent Bimbo. 1957 was the year when the new printing process took over. The bear was modified again to look fuller and rounded so that it would look kinder. The bread was also colored to make it known that it was a bread company. In 1980 the bear was changed into having the front view exposed instead of the side view it normally had. By 1995 the bear was now seen more alive as he no longer looked 2D. The bear now had a blue iris in the eyes, a more happier smile, some shading added along his fur and apron, and the bear now had fur again added on the outlines of the design. 1998 is the year when Genz remembers seeing this specific design. The bear was modified again to make it look younger to attract the new generation. His proportions changed to represent his new age with his head noticeably larger and squishier. By 2007 Bimbo bear was no longer illustrated as he was now animated into being fully 3D. It was a great change for the better as that was the time were everything was being re-modified to 3D. The bear looked like a cartoon character which made children and adults love the bear even more. 2012 was the last time Bimbo Bear was modified. The bear currently looks almost the same as the 2007’s one but a more cuter version of it.  The bear did recover some features that were lost during his first transition to being 3D. For example the whiteness of the fur or the distinctive blue iris in its eyes. His physique is leaner than predecessors but he keeps some rounded attributes in the ears, cheeks, and paws. The bear went through many changes throughout the year, but it still kept being the bear that everyone loved and knew.
