ASSIGNMENT: Choose ONE of the following interpretations of THE YELLOW WALLPAPER and write an argumentative essay that proves your theory. In addition to the original text, you must use at least two secondary sources to support your thesis.

 

• 1. It is a ghost story. They are living in a haunted house.
• 2. It is a feminist allegory about the way women’s self expression was oppressed.
• 3. It is about medical misdiagnosis. She is suffering from post-partum depression.
• 4. It is an allegory about the dangers of yellow journalism.
• 5. It is a cautionary environmental horror story about the dangers of mold.
• 5. A different theory?

 

DIRECTIONS:

• Your essay should be 750-1250 words (~3-5pgs.), typed, in MLA format (doublespaced, 12pt, Times New Roman font with 1-inch margins).
• You should use proper MLA format for in-text parenthetical citations and works cited pages. Each source should be cited within the paper at least once.
• Your name, my name, the due date, and the assignment should all appear at the top of your first page (NO cover page).
• Give your essay has an interesting and informative title.
• The essay MUST be edited for grammar, typos, and readability.
• Be sure to incorporate ALL corrections from your DRAFTS.
• NO late DRAFTS accepted.
• Late FINAL versions will be marked down one letter grade each day, and will not be accepted more than 3 days after the due date.
