As mentioned in class, there are sites such as daytum.com that you can use to collect data. For a discussion of how these sites arose with links to many of them, see this article. For example, a pioneering site served diabetics who need to keep close track of what they eat including immediate calculation of calories.
There is a site called many-eyes.com that you can make use of to see clever ways to visualize data and tools are provided so that you can produce some of these graphs yourself. Here is a New York Times article which provides a good introduction.
