Writing Task Mentor Quote— Hannael F.

“Be careful not to make a mistake you’ll regret when you’re older”.

My aunt said this to me about a month ago and it really stuck with me because it’s so important to live life with a clean conscience. My aunt discussed this with me when she visited for the week from Yonkers. As we walked in a park with the hot humidity boiling us she was spewing advice on how to gain trust with my parents and how to make good decisions. I still remember the sound of loud children enjoying their summer, jumping in the broken down sprinklers. She shared the knowledge that one of the best ways to earn your parents trust is by doing things for them without them having to ask. This applies to tasks such as chores and even things that they don’t expect you to do for them like gifting them something you know they want. She started telling me that while she was a young girl in Haiti, she’d always help around the house which allowed her to gain freedom at a young age.

She always made sure to make good choices that would benefit her in the future. That’s when she told me that it’s important for me to be weary of what I do now so that I have no regrets. I will never forget that because I already know the feeling of doing something I wish I could take back. The fact that I can’t take it back though, pushes me to make decisions wisely. I would promote that advice to every young person because it’s easy to get blinded by trends and peer pressure at a young age, so it is important to have morals and stick by them. After that conversation with my aunt I made it one of my first priorities to make sure everything I do won’t hurt me in the future and that applies to my schoolwork, beliefs and actions.
