Part A: From what Lamott has to say I believe that writing the first draft is more about the process more than the product. While writing your first draft you are writing the blueprint for the product. As Lamott was saying in her writing, your first draft is more about letting any ideas out and just writing anything that comes to your mind. With this process you can edit and take out what you don’t need and leave parts you find significant and descriptive. The first draft won’t be the best but with this first bad draft then a good second draft will come after then your final draft will look perfect
Part B: “I know some very great writers, writers you love who write beautifully and have made a great deal of money, and not one of them sits down routinely feeling wildly enthusiastic and confident. Not one of them writes elegant first drafts.” I believe this quote is significant because she is telling us even the best of authors have bad first drafts and that it is all part of the process. With this quote she kind of reassures the audience and tells us that our first draft will be bad but it will get us farther with our writing. This quote helped me have some peace of mind with the writing process since it’s never easy at first.
Part C: I would call this genre an informative narrative. Lamott is informing us about these first bad drafts which is part of the process. She’s teaching us about the ups and downs well have within this process.
I agree with you Diana. A first draft is more of a process than a product, I didn’t know that good writers also struggled with writing a good draft. I thought that they knew exactly what to write and how they wanted to phrase or organize their words. I also agree with the genre you chose. She is basically teaching us about these bad drafts and how it is okay to have one.
