Writing Task Between Two Worlds–Kinga Zimnoch

Intro- My language change growing up

Body my time and how I struggled

Conclusion- How I view it

Growing up I have spoken two languages, Polish and English. I have struggled with English but got better at it and my Polish has gotten weaker, but I can still understand when someone is talking to me in that language. My English is better than my dad’s so I would always help him in certain situations like when it involved school or documents. My mom understood more than my dad, which has put less pressure on me. I remember a specific time where I went to the dentist with my dad and the front desk struggled to understand my dad and ignored him to just speak to me. I always felt uncomfortable when my father would get Ignored but I will try my best to translate for him.

Me and my brothers always communicated in English to each other. I would find it weird to just speak polis back and forth because we just understood less that way. In my polish school I have always felt embarrassed to speak in polish because I was not very great at it. I would mix it with some English and although my teacher understood she did not allow it. I would get laughed at for the way I spoke it, but my parent and friends and siblings understood what I would try to say and never embarrassed me for it but would try to help me when they can.

I still am insecure to speak in my language because of my age and how little I know. I would never be able to properly talk to my relatives, but I could understand and write to them if I wanted to. I think that what I did when learning another language could have been better if I were .

  1. I liked what you wrote, you can add more details to the second paragraph. For example, the conversation between you and your teacher. A time when you mixed English and Polish, why and where?

    1. You do a lot of telling. Instead can you SHOW me with a few well chosen scenes.
    2. Where is the school part to your story? Remember that this is an Educational Narrative assignment.

Can you think of a time in school when you were between the two worlds of the Polish and English language?

3.Need a better outline. There’s not much here.

You have done a good job of trying out the different writing prompts! You have written something for each of the different prompts.

Now you must choose which one will be a good story about a specific time in your educational life when you had to overcome a struggle.

You told me a lot about your brothers and how supportive they are. Are you the youngest and the only girl in your family? I am guessing here because YOU DID NOT SHOW ME THIS DETAIL and it would help your story! YOu mention Daniel — Could you show me a story about having a brother as your mentor? How has Daniel helped you during a difficult moment in your educational life?
