Success Tips -Carlos Villalta

Tip 5: Understand deadlines

This tip speaks to me because most of the time I try to get a lot of work done all at once but then forget that there are deadlines. Having to work and doing errands at home can complicate my schedule with my studies and my mind space. Also I can become easily distracted by doing activities that I enjoy or sleeping. My inconsistency can chance by creating post-it notes and alarms to remind me about deadlines, this can be physical reminders that I can’t miss and in that way I can take it more serious so my grade won’t be affected. Therefore I can utilize this tip in every class by organizing myself with deadlines and not miss out on specific assignments or even fall behind it can make be small but a effective change.

Tip 9: Ask for help!!!

Asking for help can be challenging for me mostly because I feel like my questions or concerns can sound ridiculous or unnecessary. While doing group work there has been times in which I fall behind or don’t fully understand how to function as a group so I prefer to work alone. The slideshow provides information how to seek help and who to ask, I look forward to the writing center in case I need help writing an important essay or about a topic that I’m not sure of. When I attended a 4 day class that was an introduction to college called “City Tech 101” I began to get out of my habit to work alone and worked in a group, a group that is now my friends. It might feel embarrassing asking for help but it’s a better decision to ask than to stay quiet especially when your topic is about your major, great minds think alike.

  1. Hi Carlos, Understanding deadlines is important because a lot of people procrastinate and tend not to meet the deadlines on time. This tip is useful to be organized and prepared for whatever comes your way. Asking for help is crucial, but I also think that many people find it difficult to ask for it since it’s so simple for individuals to shut down and try to solve problems on their own, which can be harmful or beneficial. You said that everyone has both strengths and weaknesses. We may profit from one other’s strengths and weaknesses, in my opinion, as someone else’s weakness may be your strength and someone else’s strength may be your weakness.

  2. Hi Carlos I can relate to trying to get everything done in one go but getting distracted and feeling all that clutter in your brain can be very distracting and makes it very hard to remember everything clearly. I’m glad you thought of way to help with post it notes maybe I might try that.
