The author William Siu hooks his audience by stating the opposite of his opinion, “Gov. Gavin Newsom of California has just signed legislation that would require social media companies to make sure new products won’t be harmful to minors.” Giving the opposite opinion allows William to engage the reader and explain why he believes that video game are addicting. He further explains his opinion by giving examples such as Candy Crush. In paragraph 5 Siu explained that he owned a video game company and collected data inorder to experiment with every feature for research. William Siu incorporated storytelling by telling us that he followed a recent study in which showed that about ten percent of people had problems trying to stop playing video game. The research also goes more into depth saying how those ten percent were suffering from depression or anxiety. Siu then says that he doesn’t enjoy being apart of the video game community and that he tells his daughters that he make board games. He also then says “Whenever I encourage my daughters to strive to make a positive difference in the world, I question whether I have done the same.(paragraph 13)” The header of the text has a videogame video of a pack of crayons fighting other school supplies. The text is structured with an introduction that presents the author’s argument, followed by several body paragraphs that explore the issues in more detail. The text ends with a conclusion that summarizes the main points and offers a call to action. The text has around 1,200 words. The primary audience is most likey parents who are worried about their children playing video games so much. Siu concludes the article by saying he had a chance to have a math program with kids and saw how technology helped them learn. I believe the authors message is that technology is good but too much of it can be dangerous. I could use a similar outline for my project. I could bring up the counter argument inorder to get my point across. I will try to make it more about myself and not so much statistic based since with inflation it all goes into numbers.
Good job. I see your own thinking here.
