“The discipline, the structure, the camaraderie, the sense of belonging were what I craved. I became a leader almost immediately. I found selflessness within our ranks that reminded me of the caring atmosphere within my family. Race, color, background, income meant nothing. The PRs would go the limit for each other and for the group. If this was what soldiering was all about, then maybe I wanted to be a soldier.” This quote is very important because Powell feels he belongs within this group in addition it motivated him to become a leader, with the discipline that is structured is what he had craved for. This shows powell that not only is he a leader but is a team player within his core, he fits so well with the PR’s with doing activities such as cutting class, going to parties with also being a leader he was a academic advisor for the group
