Reading Response to Malcom X – AJ

Part A:

Part B:

” At one-hour intervals the night guards paced past every room.
Each time I heard the approach footsteps, I jumped into bed and feigned
sleep. And as soon as the guard passed, I got back out of bed onto the
floor area of that light-glow, where I would read for another fifty-eight
minutes—until the guard approached again. That went on until three or
four every morning. Three or fours hours of sleep a night was enough for
me”

Inside this prison(Norfolk Prison Colony) at night the guards will pace back n forth pass every cell keeping the prisoner in check. Therefore Malcom, every time he heard footsteps approach he would jump into bed and pretend to sleep. Then once the guard would pass he would get up and go back to the floor where the light will shine in and continue reading for 58 minutes until the guard would pass by again. Malcom would do this all the way to 3 or 4am and only get 3 hours or 4 hour of sleep. That’s true determination on him wanting to elevate his mind.

  1. Malcolm was very exorbitant with his books he use a faint glow on the floor: it the same energy of you using a Gameboy in the car at night on the highway and only able to play when passing by the highway light.
