Reading Response RLW – Chris

The most important that that I have learned from the reading is consideration. Throughout the reading there are many instances where the author states questions. Questions one should have when reading as a writer In order to consider the possibilities around using a specific word or phrase in a specific area of the writing piece. “Say you’re reading an essay in class that begins with a short quote from President Barack Obama about the war in Iraq. As a writer, what do you think of this technique? Do you think it is effective to begin the
essay with a quote?” page 73. This is a great example in which he starts to ask questions with the mind of the writer where you start questioning things as if its you’re own piece of writing. As if you are going to publish it yourself. These questions make someone consider a use of certain things within their writing. “The goal is to carefully consider the choices the author made and
the techniques that he or she used, and then decide whether you want
to make those same choices or use those same techniques in your own
writing” page 73. In here he is showing the goal is consideration and the reasoning why which is to help us with deciding on what to use on our writing based on the questions we ask ourselves in the beginning.

  1. I like how you discussed the techniques that should be used to read like a writer which are to ask yourself questions throughout the reading. once you begin to answers the questions and begin to understand what an author is writing about and how he/she is doing it, you can decide if you’d like to implicate strategies of writing similar to theirs in your work.

  2. Your answer is not clearly written. This part of BUnn’s essay focuses on the writerly choice of incorporating a quote and you as the reader, deciding if you would make this choice in your own writing.
