In the essay “How to Read Like a Writer” by Mike Bunn, I was able to expand my knowledge on the importance of reading like a writer, the fundamentals, techniques, and how to incorporate it in our writing skills as students. Moreover, what stood out to me and made me visualize to a better understanding was when he wrote “When you read like a writer, you are trying to figure out how the text you are reading was constructed so that you learn how to “build” one for yourself.” (pg.74) Not only that but also, he breaks it down for one to view it as an architect being able to break down a reading, examine, and how it was built from the bottom up by its choice of words. Coupled with how the author makes us feel and visualize scenarios in our head by correlating the right words together. Altogether, it made me visualize another perspective, to be more aware, question why the author decided to start with a quote, knowing beforehand what genre the reading is to have an idea and view it in that lens.
I enjoyed the way you explained visualization, like picturing and imagining what the writer is trying to say. All while questioning why the writer planned that way.
OK.
