In Mike Bunn’s essay “How to Read Like a Writer,” I learned that it is important to highlight and take notes when reading to be able to find interesting choices the author made, ask questions, and end up with a useful list of specific techniques you would like to use when writing.
In the essay, Bunn wrote that “By utilizing this same process of highlighting and note-taking, you’ll end up with a useful list of specific techniques to have at your disposal when it comes to the time to begin your writing,” (pg.82).
This quote helps us to know that if we cultivate the habit of highlighting and taking notes it will be easier for us to find useful techniques that will help us become better writers, which is one of the main purposes of reading like a writer.
