About Me

Who is Louis Pichardo?

Louis Pichardo is a highly motivated Success Via Apprenticeship (SVA) electrical installation teacher candidate, who has two years of teaching experience and five years of industry experience.

Education

Prior to his SVA position, he attended Transit Tech High School.  He graduated, first in class, the transit electrician program with CTE endorsement, and obtained various industry credentials. Currently, he is working on obtaining a bachelor’s degree in career and technology education from New York City College of Technology, where he continues to excel in his studies.

Industry Experience

Industry-wise, he specializes in the commercial and residential electrical field. This includes electrical new construction, renovation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and safety. While in high school, he interned with the MTA, where he was slowly introduced to the real-world electrical field. After being hired by the SVA program, he worked with JSS Electric, where he learned the ins and outs of the entire electrical trade. After a year with the company, he was even able to move up in positions from helper to mechanic, which is a rarity in the field.

Teaching Experience

Teaching-wise, he has teaching experience in 10th, 11th, and 12th-grade electrical classrooms. In Fall 2018, he spent a semester teaching his first 11th-grade class, at Queens Technical High School. There he learned the basics of lesson planning, classroom management, and the work-flow of teaching. In Spring 2020, he spent another semester teaching his second 11th-grade electrical classroom, at Thomas Edison High School. There he learned to refine and gear his lessons for maximum student learning, build a curriculum according to industry partners, and transition to remote learning.

A Final Note

Through the combination of industry and teaching, Louis looks to enhance the versatility and skill-set that the students of tomorrow will hold. With this, he aims to better the future electrical industry, one classroom at a time.
