MY PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION
In my vision, it is important to align my planning, framework, and other professional activities with the University, College, and Department’s mission statements, and core values. Our responsibility is to prepare students as global citizens for the real-world workforce. By expanding my knowledge about global cultural values, and nurturing my civic and interpersonal capacity, I am more confident in teaching a culturally diverse audience. Finding new effective methodologies, and strategies for teaching mathematics helps me be more productive in communicating with students and delivering different concepts and knowledge. Exploring more in-depth mathematical concepts and their applications enriches my capability in the subject matter. Harmonizing all of them makes me a better mathematics educator. I consistently aim to make my teaching as resilient and efficient as possible.
- I carefully work on the course department outline to establish and communicate expectations. That helps in creating a great course structure and harmonizing the course curriculum materials, tools, and outcomes that are necessary to establish collaboration with students. My clear communication and delivery of instructions have led to a successful course outcome.
- My goal is to continue focusing on personal and professional growth. I am aware of rapid changes in the world that demand capable well-prepared professionals. I am committed to continuing my active participation, and collaboration in major activities such as cohorts, fellowships, courses, workshops, seminars, conferences, and other professional developments to further growth.
- Expanding my mathematical knowledge helps me be prepared and find real-life applications. I always aim to be informed and explore mathematics in my areas of teaching, and beyond. I prepare the material that I must teach in-depth and relate mathematical concepts to real-life applications to make it easier for my students to digest.
- My teaching is continuous research. I review and assess my teaching approach, and methodologies by collaborating with colleagues, exchanging experiences, and researching new methodologies, pedagogies, and tools for teaching mathematics. I reflect on my teaching and adjust and improve my instruction based on my experience and findings.
- Being efficient and multitasking are necessary skills in teaching. I aim to find ways to connect to every learner, quickly test understanding, be confident, and be flexible in my approach. While teaching I’m using different approaches and ways of representing the material, using questioning techniques for scaffolding, and adjusting instructions to reach out immediately to all learners based on their needs.
- Modeling active learning and real-life applications in mathematics are necessary for communicating and supporting the reason for learning mathematics. I’m constantly modeling, creating, demonstrating, computing, proving, applying formulas, and solving problems. Detail-oriented group projects on STEM applications have helped my students gain real-life experience.
- Using technology has enabled me to achieve faster computations and observations. I believe in an interactive approach to learning by experimenting with mathematical software. Thus, I use the computer, graphing interactive calculator, and different LMS such as WeBWork, MyOpenMath, WileyPlus, OpenLab, Aleks, and Blackboard, for discussions, practicing and doing assignments.
- I am committed to creating a great inclusive environment where every individual can grow and learn in the most possible capacity and interests is important and it is reflected in my course materials and policies. I have the awareness that every person can bring something special and unique to this world. My responsibility is to help them develop their potential by believing in them as individuals that are capable to achieve their goals and have a sense of pride. I guide students and allow their natural curiosity to direct their learning and promote deep love, and respect for themselves, others, and their environment.
- I carefully investigate and work toward building upon the students’ strength and civility by promoting self-respect, positive attitude, work ethic, and sense of responsibility, which have improved in gaining social values such as fairness, honesty, sincerity, respect, dignity, integrity, justice, and prosperity.
- I always reflect, assess effectiveness, make adjustments in my planning for instructions and maintain growth in teaching and learning. I am a facilitator that enhances learning through inspiring using advanced strategies and methods based on curriculum, diversity of the population that I teach, multiple intelligence, and differentiation of learning styles to reach each student. Strengthening the collaboration with my colleagues; sharing experiences and knowledge make my steps more secure toward success.
